I was smiling right from the start. Landscapes as epic as the rest of the series!

Synopsis: A younger and more reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, sets out on an “unexpected journey” to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarves to reclaim their stolen mountain home from a dragon named Smaug.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Director: Garth Jennings

It doesn’t live up to the original radio-plays. Bill Nighy revived the 2nd half.

Synopsis: Mere seconds before the Earth is to be demolished by an alien construction crew, journeyman Arthur Dent is swept off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher penning a new edition of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”

p.s. This trailer is brilliant, I hadn’t seen it before! Go Stephen Fry!

:::::NOTES::::

I have recently listened to the complete radio-plays including the final unofficial audio book and watched the entire original series. To say I had high expectations for this film was an understatement. I really didn’t deliver. I’m sure if I had come to this film with no prior knowledge I may have enjoyed it more. I felt that so much was missed, rushed or Americanized that it was a solid 2, until Bill Nighy turned up! He was just great and brought the rating up substantially.

Brilliant.. I always love a Rian Johnson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt combo!

Synopsis: In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ by transporting back Joe’s future self.

p.s. ‘blunderbuss’ is a great word!

Director: Ridley Scott

This is why we should not explore space 😉

Synopsis: A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

p.s. I also watched the alternate start and ending.. Not worth buying the special edition for..

A very fun and heartwarming story. Makes me want to visit India again.

Synopsis; British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than its advertisements, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.

Director: Kenneth Branagh
